Jour 1 (par Vivianne Heimann et Manon Gautier)

Monday, March 6th
Our first day in Edinburgh started two hours earlier than expected. At 6:30 AM we arrived at Edinburgh Castle, where we were supposed to find toilets and have breakfast. As the toilets were still closed, we only got to eat. On our following way, trying to find some toilets, we went pass the National Gallery, the train station and stopped at Calton Hill. There we had a great view over Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, but still no toilets. However, when we came back to the train station, we finally found what we needed. Outside we saw a beggary sitting on the street with his dog and decided to give him some food, which we weren’t going to need. His thankfulness made us feel even better than good. At ten o’clock we started our visit to the National Gallery. A certain time, many beautiful and impressive paintings later, we went to a pub to have lunch. Afterwards our way led us to the National Museum of Scotland. We had about two hours and a half to discover this huge place, where all the periods of time, since the beginning of life, are represented. Each part of the museum belongs to a different domain, such as animals, stones, the history, fashion, technology and even more. To finish the perfect day, everyone was picked up by their host family, which were in almost every case very welcoming and generous.

Jour 2 (par Anna STRENS, Lou-Anne LIBERGE and Florinda LE MEUR )

“During our day we visited the city of edinburgh with a guide who was very interesting. In the early afternoon we visited the museum of modern art. There were some very beautiful works. Then we went by bus to the clans game. We did orienteering, tug of war and pole throwing. We had a lot of fun and we did sports. At the end of the afternoon, we went to a Special Scottish dance club. it was a bit complex but we laughed a lot. We had dinner, and we taste the HAGGIS with mashed potatoes. certain have liked others less. It is meat cooked in the stomach of sheep.”

Day 3 and 4 (by Myriam GRAIED)

I admired the landscapes when we were on the bus to Stirling. I was a bit disapointed by the costumes since they were made for children but I enjoyed the tour and all the explanations given by the guide. He was really funny and enthousiast, he gave us a lot of interesting details. I also liked the guides of old town jail, the concept of acting different characters was fun and the actors were skilled. Holyrood castle was gorgeous, we couldn’t take photos but it’s not a big deal. Thanks to the audio guide we could take our time to appreciate the castle and understand fully what was said. The museums we visited when the others climbed the volcano weren’t boring at all, as I had been told. The parliament wasn’t what i expected and the debate was a bit boring and hard to understand. It was great to have some free time after the visits, we enjoyed Edinburgh without stressing over the timing.

Day 3 and 4 (par COLLARD-PETIT Julie)

The third day, we went to Stirling to visit the castle and the Old Town Jail as well. After about one hour of bus from Penicuik, we arrived at the castle. Then we had about 30 min to walk around the castle before the guiding visit. Personally, I mainly did the Palace Vaults with all the little fun activities.
The guided visit was really interesting and the guide gave us lots of anecdotes and information. With him we visit the Chapel Royal, the Queen Anne Garden and the Great Hall. Afterwards we had time to explore precisely all the rest of the castle because we had a quiz to answer, in this way we discover the Royal Palace, the Great Kitchen, the Stirling Tapestries and the Regimental Museum. To answer this quiz in its entirety, we had to ask questions to the staff of the castle as well as to the actors in the Royal Palace. When this time was over, on the road to go to the Old Town Jail we pass trough the Old Town Cemetery. The visit of the Old Town Jail was performed by actors, which made it lively and interactive. I found that this visit really impressive. Then before coming back to the bus we had free time to visit the city center.

Last day (par Juliette CORNAIRE)

On the last day, we have been to Holyroodhouse palace, where the queen Elizabeth II was giving garden parties… then we climbed on the volcano and we saw Edinburg, it was really beautiful. To finish we visited the scottish parliament, it was very interesting. At the end of the day we had a little bit of time to do some shopping in the city.
